New Digital Literacy Guide to Support Adult Learners

The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and Digital Promise released a guide to promote digital literacy for adult learners. The guide is a welcome addition as nearly 1/3 Americans currently struggle to perform their job effectively due to limited digital problem-solving skills.

Guide: Promoting Digital Literacy for Adult Learners

The 80-page guide, “Promoting Digital Literacy for Adult Learners,” was released to support educators, tutors, and mentors who are working with adult learners on building digital literacy skills. The guide provides the following and more:

• information on digital literacy, digital equity, and digital resilience,
• reflective exercises that explore how personal skill sets, life experiences, and support systems impact each person’s digital literacy journey,
• suggested handouts and lesson plans (including pair exploration, guided activities, and more),
• strategies on how to best engage and accommodate the learning needs of each learner,
• a list of Yes or No questions that can help assess a person’s (or your own) digital literacy skills,
• and additional resources for further reading or learner engagement.

• Nearly 1/3 Americans currently struggle to perform their job effectively due to limited digital problem-solving skills, especially among people of color from both immigrant and non-immigrant backgrounds. (National Skills Coalition)
